United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit

The Eleven Circuits of the United States Court of Appeals were authorized by Congress and Article III of the US Constitution. The judges that serve on the bench are nominated by the President of the United States, and confirmed by the United States Senate. The judges serve a lifetime tenure.

Why the Courts were Established
The U.S. Courts of Appeals were the first Federal Courts designed exclusively to hear cases on appeal from trial courts. In an effort to relieve the caseload burden in the Supreme Court and to handle a dramatic increase in federal filings, Congress, in the Judiciary Act of 1891, established eleven courts of appeals, one for each judicial circuit.[1]
Eleventh Circuit Location
The United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit is one of eleven circuits of Federal Courts with Appellate Jurisdiction. The Eleventh Circuit court is located at the Elbert P. Tuttle U.S. Court of Appeals Building in Atlanta, Georgia.[2]
