Vietnam Veterans Against the War

From lawbrain.com

Vietnam Veterans Against the War is a national veterans' organization founded in 1967 to voice the growing opposition among returning servicemen and women to the war in southeast Asia. Its membership of over 30,000 included those in the United States as well as active duty personnel in Vietnam.

Within a few years the organization became involved in the rights and needs of veterans. In 1970 it started groups to deal with the psychological effects of war, which became the model for current veterans counseling. It helped draft legislation to improve educational benefits and create job programs, and sought amnesty for war resisters as well as veterans with less than honorable discharges.

Senator John Kerry became a member of Vietnam Veterans Against the War in the early 1970s, and was appointed to the VVAW Executive Committee, a position he left in 1972.

The organization continues to work for veterans facing unemployment, discrimination, homelessness, post-traumatic stress disorder and other health problems.
