Introduction

Willkie was first founded by Wendell Willkie and future Supreme Court Justice Felix Frankfurter. From the beginning, the firm represented such high profile clients as Ulysses S. Grant and Thomas Edison.

With the goal of fostering intellectual curiosity in a collaborative work environment, Willkie prides itself on the fact that many attorneys stay with the firm for the duration of their professional career. In addition to high retention rates, Willkie attorneys are also diverse. With the belief that everyone benefits from a diverse work environment, the firm has a Diversity Committee as well as a Womens Development Committee in order to ensure that the firm is constantly working to maintain and encourage attorneys from different backgrounds and experiences. This effort is also seen in the recruitment practices of the firm.

Participating in a variety of pro bono activities is also important to the firm and Willkie maintains that the time committed to pro bono projects should be the same as for paying clients.

Willkie Recruiting

For the past five years, Willkie has given offers to every single summer associate the firm has taken on -- something that is especially impressive in the wake of the hard financial times. The summer associate program is the primary recruiting tool for Willkie.

The firm recruits attorneys from top law schools, with special emphasis on skills that will be transferrable from law school exams to making their applicants great lawyers. Willkie does not have billable hours and allows your associates to begin directly communicating with clients as soon as they begin with the firm.[3]
