Coffee Party

The Coffee Party (also known as Coffee Party USA) was founded in January 2010 by Annabel Park as a grassroots political movement to give voice to Americans who want to see cooperation within government. It was founded in response to the increasing popularity of the Tea Party movement.

Park, a documentary filmmaker, founded Coffee Party USA as an outlet for individuals wary of the growing Tea Party protests and demonstrations.[1]

It is largely aligned with Democratic Party. It has gained traction through social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, with particpants numbering over 200,000.[2]

On Saturday, March 13, 2010 the Coffee Party held its opening event. Members met at local coffee shops across the country and internationally to discuss issues they wished the U.S. government would address.[3]

Goals of the Coffee Party

The stated goals of the Coffee Party include reinvigorating the public sphere, demanding a government that responds to the needs of the majority of its citizens, reinstating democratic ideals such as civid duty, civic pride, and indviduals contributing to society. [4]
