The designation of the offense can vary from state to state, and includes "driving under the influence," "driving while intoxicated," "operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated." In most states, if a person is found to have a Blood Alchol Content (BAC) of .08 or greater he or she is presumed by law to be driving under the influence. But, most states also have alternative laws that provide that a person can still be found&nbsp;guilty of &nbsp;driving under the influence even if his or her BAC is below .08 if evidence is introduced to prove that the defendant was operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. <br>

The designation of the offense can vary from state to state, and includes "driving under the influence," "driving while intoxicated," "operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated." Drunk driving laws often extend to a number of different vehicles, including cars, trucks, boats, snowmobiles, ATVs, motor homes and even lawnmowers.

In most states, if a person is found to have a Blood Alchol Content (BAC) of .08 or greater he or she is presumed by law to be driving under the influence. But, most states also have alternative laws that provide that a person can still be found guilty of  driving under the influence even if his or her BAC is below .08 if evidence is introduced to prove that the defendant was operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving is an organization that has sought to increase attention on this issue and is very active in lobbying for stricter laws to punish offenders.
