Williams & Connolly LLP is known first and foremost for being a litigation firm, though they have moved on to expand into other lucrative areas of tax, business counsel, and media representation. Founded in 1967 by notable trial lawyer Edward Williams and his former student at Georgetown, Paul Connolly, Williams & Connolly sought to create a practice which embraced the competition and would stop at nothing to achieve victory. Those principles have held fast and continue to carry on at Williams & Connolly today.[1]

Williams seems to be the go-to law firm for the person or entity with a unique, unheard of, or uneasily categorized case. Known for its roots in trial litigation, they have a reputation for taking on the cases that no one else will or could even dream of contesting. Williams is notable for defending in high profile cases such as President Bill Clinton’s impeachment trial, Vice President Dick Cheney in the Valerie Plame investigation, as well as defending corporate clients such as Enron, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac in lawsuits.

Being located in Washington, D.C. has not stopped Williams from practicing in virtually every jurisdiction. Whether working with drug companies in lawsuits and patent litigation to resolving high profile disputes in professional sports or media, Williams is accustomed to being in the thick of it. Williams also appears to be a favorite of other law firms seeking legal counsel, leading the Washington Post to remark that Williams is the, “firm that lawyers and law firms turn to when they’re in trouble.”

Williams is known not only for its litigation prowess, but also its abilities in negotiating various contracts for famous media personalities and athletes. Williams counts prominent figures such as Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Tony Blair, Barack Obama, Brian Williams, Tim Duncan, and Grant Hill among its clientele. Williams is also committed to pro bono work, offering legal services for the indigent in Washington, D.C. and Maryland as well as representing veterans before the Court of Appeals of Veterans Claims.[2]
