Declaration of the Causes and Necessity of Taking Up Arms

From lawbrain.com

The Second Continental Congress on July 6, 1775 wrote the Declaration of the Causes and Necessity of Taking Up Arms. This declaration explained why the thirteen colonies needed to take up arms in the American Revolutionary War. The final draft was written by John Dickinson who used language from Thomas Jefferson's earlier version.

In the Declaration, the colonists protested the British Parliament's extension into the colonies following the Seven Years' War. The colonists objected to policies such as taxation without representation, extended use of vice admiralty courts, several coercive acts, and the declaratory act.
